A New Quilting Year Starts!

And we're off to a glorious start of our new quilting year!  Many thanks to Denise who hosted today's meeting.  (We offered to hold the rest of the meetings at her home, but she graciously declined.  Something about sharing.  Whatever.)

Julie, the new We're In Stitches madame president, welcomed everyone.   Special welcome to Sarah, guest of Monetta.  (As of this writing, Sarah is considering joining our group.  Hopefully we made a fairly good impression today.)

Here's a brief summary of our discussion....detailed notes on upcoming meetings and locations to be sent out via e-mail......

  • Heartfelt gratitude to Sue and Pat for their service as madame president and madame secretary during the past two years.  We have greatly appreciated and benefitted from their service, creativity and sense of humor, and look forward to seeing the quilts you create out of your "retirement" fabric.
  • Upcoming meetings. dates and locations.....check your e-mail!
  • Dues:  $20....due in October.
  • Emeritus status:  Group consensus to have an emeritus status for those members who can no longer participate regularly.  Emeritus members will have the option to rejoin the group as an active member when spots open up, but in the meantime, will stay connected through e-mail and blog.
  • UFO Projects:  Bring your UFO projects to our October 17th meeting.  If you've forgotten what (or which!) UFO project(s) you committed to do, give Christine a call.  Didn't quit finish those UFOs?  Your UFO $$$ will go into the pot to be distributed among those who finished.  Next UFO sign up will be in January 2013....stay tuned.
  • Charity Projects:  Group discussion on large variety of charity projects available.  Consensus -- we will hold a work meeting in April 2013 and create special pocket blankets for Rady Children's Hospital.  Christine asked members to look through their UFOs and consider completing one for the Country Loft charity auction in August 2013.
  • Medallion Quilt Along:  Group discussion on learning how to make a medallion quilt (similar to Round Robin process, but each person does the entire quilt).  Learning and work sessions will alternate with other monthly activities.  Christine will teach the first session on the medallion.
  • Hidden 9-Patch Exchange Update:  Squares are due in November.  Gloria has finished her quilt, so please keep the ones you would make for her and use them in your own.  Questions?  See Karen.
  • Square Agogo:  I don't think this is what the project is called, but this is what I wrote down in my notes.  Sigh.  Glenda will be coordinating this, with the designated quilt coordinator of the month to hand out fabric and patterns for 12 squares to participating members, who will then bring their completed square back the next month.  More in October...

How much piecin' a quilt's like living a life...The Lord sends us the pieces, but we can cut 'em out and put 'em together pretty much to suit ourselves.
